Class Closures
Did you know classes run all year round at Showgrounds? You heard that right! Gymnastics is on every week so the kids can keep up with their gymnastics, even throughout school holidays! That being said, we do close for public holidays. If you’re ever unsure of our closure dates please visit our Important Dates page on the website.
For Northcote, we break for the first week of each school holidays, and the second week run our classes as per usual.

Mid-Year Testing
Mid-year testing had to be rescheduled due to the lockdown. It has been rescheduled for Monday, July 26th to Sunday, August 8th. Testing happens during class so you don’t need to do anything special during this time, we just ask that you ensure you arrive on time and ready to go!
After testing has concluded, you’ll be able to login into your Parent Portal account and check your child’s results. How?
• Login to the Parent Portal account.
• Go to My Account, then Students.
• Click, Evaluations, then onto the respective level, for example, beginner.
• Work through each skill area, floor, beam, bars, etc. For example, FL1 – Bunny Hop, notice a yellow star highlighted by the skill, this means your child has passed that skill and needs a sticker on their poster!

If you have any other questions about testing, check out our May newsletter which included a FAQs section!

Absences and Make-up Lessons
We have lots of full classes across the week which can make finding make-up spots difficult. We’d like to remind parents, if you know you are away for a class, please mark yourself absent through the Parent Portal via the ‘Future Absences’ section. If we know your child is away for the week, we are able to slot kids in for a make-up lesson, therefore helping out another family.
Which reminds us, don’t forget you can also book your makeup lessons through the Parent Portal under the ‘Makeups’ section!

Spectator Density Limits
Good news! We have had some easing of restrictions in regards to allowing spectators in our gyms. We are now allowed to have 6 spectators in the foyer area of both locations. At Northcote, we are able to have an additional 10 spectators on the mezzanine.
Please keep in mind these numbers are limited and they do not allow for everyone to stay and watch classes. We want to keep these spots for parents whose children require them in the facility such as kids who are coming in for their first lesson or kids with special needs. We ask that you please keep this in mind when you’re deciding whether or not you really need to stay for your child’s class.
As soon as there are any changes, we will be sure to let you know. Thank you for your understanding!

Parking Spots
Please only park in our marked purple Twisters car spaces and not in any other businesses along the driveway. Our undercroft is a drop-off/pick-up zone only, for after-school and weekend hours, to keep traffic moving. If you intend to stay for longer than 5-minutes, you’ll need to find a car spot outside of the undercroft or park on Beavers Road and walk into the gym. We really appreciate your help with this!

CHILD SAFETY CORNER
Gymnastics Australia and Athletes Voice
As part of Gymnastics Australia trying to remain openly transparent, they’ve shared their immediate focus on how to make swift, but more importantly, meaningful and sustainable changes within the sport. This changes starts with their search for an athlete’s voice, and empowering our athletes to have a greater impact on how our sport is delivered in a safe and positive way. What will this mean? A consistent blog from all different athletes, a representative for gymnasts in making positive changes within our sport, and coming soon – new courses for our coaches based around athletes safety!

Gymnast of the Month
Congratulations to our June Gymnasts of the Month!

Northcote June GoM | Asher

Here is what Coach Julia had to say…
Asher is an eager and passionate gymnast who brings a great, focused energy into class. Asher always listens attentively when the coach explains activities and consistently works hard throughout training. Throughout the circuits, Asher always takes initiative and helps explain and demonstrate activities to any unsure classmates. Most of all, I nominated Asher because of her drive to improve her gymnastics. Asher will constantly ask me how to improve her scorpion kicks, chin-ups, casts, and so on… Asher will even explain to me her own self-corrections. Asher is a determined and friendly team player who loves a challenge. Keep up the hard work Asher!
