Torquay Gym Closure
Torquay parents, please make sure to check your inboxes as we have sent an email to explain that during the heavy rain, our Torquay gym has completely flooded. This video from owners, Dan and Sarah, shows you exactly what our beautiful gym looked like, and why we have to remain closed for the time being.

We also have our first update from Sarah as she shows us what our Torquay gym looks like, what we’re currently doing to remediate the damage, and what our timeline looks like for getting back inside!

We would like to thank all of you for your outpouring of love and support, it doesn’t go unnoticed for our small business that has already been through so much these past few years!

When will Twisters Torquay be open again?
At this point, we simply cannot say. Due to the damage the flood caused to all of our matting, our Torquay facility will be closed for the foreseeable future. We will be in touch as soon as we have any more news so that we can provide you with a reopening date!

Car Park Reminders
Now that we are coming into the warmer months, we’d like to remind families that there is plenty of parking available on surrounding streets on Beavers Road side. The gym is easily accessible via path, you can safely park on surrounding streets and walk into the gym to get some extra steps in and enjoy the sunshine (as well as avoiding the headache of finding a parking spot right outside the door)!

Skills Testing Posters
Every child enrolled into our Badge & Stars, NinjaGym and Tumbling programs will receive a skills testing poster from their coach, please keep it somewhere safe as you’ll need it when our testing periods come around! If you have misplaced your child’s poster, someone from the front desk or your child’s coach can help you with a replacement poster for a cost of $5.

Team Gym For All Fusion FX Competition from Coach Amelia
A massive congratulations to the gymnasts that competed in the TeamGFA Fusion FX Competition. It was amazing to see all of the hard work over the last couple of years pay off and the girls smash their routines! For a number of the girls who participated, it was their first competition. I am so proud of the confidence and progress they displayed on the day. The resilience this team has had over the last couple of years of lockdowns was especially impressive. I can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store for this great program next year; see you on the floor girls!

Inclusion Update from our Inclusion Coordinator, Lauren
We have been working hard to expand our inclusive programs here at Twisters.
Most recently we’ve introduced a brand new program, called ‘All Abilities Badge & Stars’. These classes are best suited to children (5 to 12 years) with high support needs who require extra assistance and guidance to participate in physical activity. The program will highlight individual goals, track achievements and kids will also participate in Badge & Stars testing. Other great things about these classes, they’re a little shorter (40 minutes), have small class numbers, two coaches, and Sensory Hour runs during.
If you have a child interested in joining gymnastics, but you haven’t found the appropriate program, you can certainly come and give this one a try! We welcome you to enrol for a trial class to give it a go!

We have 3 spots left in our SocialGym program!
SocialGym is targeted to children who find social interactions challenging and struggle to maintain and develop friendships. During our SocialGym classes we ensure the gym is quiet, the class sizes are small, we spend time focusing on social skills using themes and encourage gymnast input.
If this sounds like a program your child would benefit from, please join us for a trial class so that they can give it a go!

Child Safety Corner
“Every Body is Unique” is a new mandatory course for all Twisters staff members. This course is incredibly important as it begins the educational journey for gymnastics, in working towards a culture where every body is cared for, nourished and empowered to achieve their goals. We have no doubt this course will be invaluable for all of Team Twisters!

Gymnast of the Month
Congratulations to our October Gymnasts of the Month!

Northcote GoM | Finbar

Coaches Rachel and Lucy nominated Finbar, here is what they had to say…
We nominated Finbar for Gymnast of the Month because he is such a joy to coach!
Finbar always comes into the gym with a big smile on his face! He has improved so much since starting Ninja and is continually learning and trying new skills. He has amazing headstands and is great at ninja vaults and rolls. Finbar always helps out the other gymnasts and is a great listener! He brings a positive energy and is always working hard. Finbars work ethic is admirable and he doesn’t shy away from a challenge! He has great communication skills and always tells us stories from his week. He is always keen to be a line leader and is a great role model for the other gymnasts. Well done Finbar!

Coach Caylie nominated Emma, here is what she had to say…
I chose to nominate Emma for Gymnast of the Month because she has grown a lot over the last few months. When she first started in July, she was quite shy and reserved about trying things, but now she is trying new skills every day! She takes on corrections very well and has become much more confident with her gymnastics. Not only that, she has become more confident within the class, always telling us stories, joking around, and being a great role model for the other gymnasts in the group! Emma has a positive attitude and brings her bright smile every week! I really enjoy having her in class. She has earned Gymnast of the Month through her hard work, great attitude, and willingness to try new things. I am very proud to be her coach!
