O-Torquay-Gymnastics

Stay Warm!
Please dress your child for the weather, our Torquay and Northcote facilities are not heated and can get very chilly in the winter.
Layers that they can take off during the session once they are warmed up is a nifty idea!

Arrived on a bike?
We understand that many families attend their Northcote classes via bike, and finding a spot to leave your bike for the duration of the class can be a pickle! Unfortunately we do not have the authority to implement a bike rack outside, please make use of any posts/rails along the carpark to lock up your bike. If a student would like to ride to class, we can allow these smaller bikes to sit inside the door (underneath the stairs).

Car Parking at Northcote
During our daytime Tiny Tornadoes classes, parents are welcome to park in the undercroft car spots (the undercroft becomes a pick up/drop off zone during after school hours). Please keep in mind that we have purposely scheduled our class times with a 10-minute gap between classes so that cars will be vacating as you arrive for your lesson; revolving car parks!

For our new Twisters members, a quick reminder to please only park in our marked Twisters car spaces and not in any other businesses along the driveway. Our undercroft is a drop off/pick up zone only, for after school and weekend hours, to keep traffic moving. If you intend to stay for longer than 5-minutes we kindly ask that you find a spot for your car outside of the undercroft, or park on Beavers Road, or surrounding streets and walk into the gym. We really appreciate your help with this!

Better Understand our Colour Skill Levels
At Twisters, we use different colours to represent different skill levels. Each skill level has between 15-18 skills  across different apparatus’. For example, Badge & Stars focus is on the Olympic events (vault, bars, beam, and floor), whereas our NinjaGym focuses on parkour events such as wall, vaults, and rolls. All of our programs have a trampoline and body preparation component to ensure every member is building strength and spatial awareness along the way.

Placing students in colour levels allows coaches to monitor their progress, and provide safe and challenging progressions based on the lesson plan for that specific level. The skills get harder as the levels go on, and each level has progressions and drills to achieve the final skill – whatever that may be!

Beginner levels focus on basic movement patterns and body awareness, while intermediate and advanced levels start to see more skill development. We encourage our gymnasts and ninjas to try something new each time they come to the gym, whether it is a small progression, or a brand new skill, new things and exciting things are happening every day at Twisters! For more information on colour levels, please check out this blog by our Education Coordinator, Caylie!

Tiny Tornadoes Makeup Token Reminder
A reminder that your makeup token is generated for use in your relevant program. When a student receives their token, please ensure to book into the appropriate, equivalent class (Tiny Tornadoes, 40 minute session). Our programs are clearly named, and it is important to attend the appropriate program for your child due to key differences between them. Some differences between programs include session length, rotation changes, skills taught, and our fun Tinies themes not being present in the 1hr classes.
If we notice your child has been booked into the inappropriate makeup class (i.e. a Badge & Stars class rather than Tiny Tornadoes) we will remove the session, reissue the token to your account, and be in contact to assist you in finding a more suitable class. We appreciate your cooperation.

iClassPro App
We have a wonderful, easy to use app for parents! The iClass Pro app allows parents to book in make-up classes, mark their child absent, request to transfer their class and book into holiday programs. If you haven’t already, you can download the iClassPro App from your app store and get started right away!
📲 Make sure you search for exactly that – ‘the iClassPro app’.
📲 Then, and this is very important, ensure you put in the correct organisation name, which is ‘twistersgym’ – all lower case and no spaces. You’ll know you’re in the right place because the landing page is purple (if the landing page is red, you’re trying to get into the Canadian Twisters).
📲 Lastly, you just need to pop in your Parent Portal details and you’re set!

Child Safety Corner
Coaches Extended Learning
Did you know that at Twisters we run workshops every term, across all three of our locations to our help our Coaches expand their knowledge? Our coaches get together with the aim of helping them learn new techniques, build confidence, learn new skills, talk about areas of struggle and of course to help strengthen the bond and build strong connections between staff!
All of this helps them not only become better educators, but provides the best experience for your kids at Twisters!

Gymnast of the Month
Congratulations to our July Gymnasts of the Month!

Showgrounds GoM | Avery

Coach Ruby nominated Avery, here is what she had to say…
Avery comes into class every Saturday with a spring in her step and a huge smile on her face that is easily reciprocated by myself and the rest of the class. She constantly drives herself to do the best she can and often enjoys doing new challenges to further her own skills. Avery is always on the look out for her classmates and is continually doing things to make her mates better. It is a pleasure to have Avery in my class and I look forward to watching her gymnastics skills grow!

Torquay GoM | Harlow

Coach Celia nominated Lhonegan, here is what she had to say…
I nominated Leia because of how incredible her work ethic and class behaviour is. She is always trying her absolute best on every skill, even when I’m working with another kid. She is super quick to listen and follow instructions, and is constantly helping to build a positive and fun class environment. I’m so impressed and proud of how much Leia has improved, and I’m so excited to continue to watch her grow into the fantastic gymnast she is becoming!
