Outdoor classes are now running at Northcote!
We are now able to take bookings for classes of up to 5 children in our outdoor gymnastics space (undercover carpark) at Northcote. Our coaches will be hauling out floor strips and all the equipment for the planned activities, to give the kids a chance to get active and return to gymnastics! The gymnastics area will be fully fenced, allowing only coaches and participants to enter.

Where do I book?
Once you’ve logged into your Parent Portal account, use the magnifying glass icon and search for ‘outdoor’. This will bring up all class options, which you can then narrow down using further filters. If you’re a Showgrounds member, make sure to change your location to Northcote to find these sessions.

How will I be charged?
Classes will be charged at a reduced rate of $21 for a 1-hour class and $16 for a 40-minute class. We will not be running 1.4 hour-classes until daylight saving kicks in on Sunday, October 3rd. You’ll be charged pro-rata for the classes remaining between now and November 5th (by that time we will know whether or not we will be returning to indoor classes or extending our time outdoors and can plan accordingly). For example, if you join a Thursday session, starting this Thursday, September 30th, you will be charged for 6 sessions x $21 = $126. Your card will be processed before your child’s first class.

There are limited class options available and of course, limited numbers.
Also important to note that due to the incredibly limited number of classes we can host at this time, make-up tokens will not be accumulated for any outdoor sessions missed.
Unfortunately we are not permitted to do outdoor classes at Showgrounds this year. Showgrounds members are very welcome to book into these Northcote classes, if it is within your 10km radius.

What’s happening with fees while we remain in lockdown?
Please be assured that Twisters Gymnastics will NOT recommence billing until we reopen. Before classes are back in person, we will communicate dates and details regarding payments with you via email.

We are hiring!
We are spending this time in lockdown looking for ways to boost our staffing stocks at all venues. This time of year is normally spent in the gym working hard on our Coaches in Training to get them ready to lead their own classes next year.
As you can imagine, COVID has made this difficult but we see the necessity to boost our staffing levels. Given the number of staff that will get caught up in exposure sites and just general illness when we begin to open up, we want to be ready!
Are you looking for a job? Do you love kids? Looking for flexible hours to work around your own children’s needs? Working at Twisters may work well for you. We train staff from ages 14 and up to any age. Interested? Please get in touch with Sarah on sarah@twistersgym.com.au for more information!

In case you hadn’t heard, Twisters is coming to Torquay!
The idea of opening a gym in Torquay came pre-COVID, as you can imagine, it has been hard to sit back and wait. We had such a great start to this year, and with that, began searching for a building to make our own. Then, a few months ago, we found it! The timing may not be ideal as we hop in and out of lockdowns, but either way there is plenty happening behind the scenes and we could not be more excited!
Our brand new space is currently being transformed [around lockdowns] into a beautiful gym for the community.
We expect to open at the beginning of November, but please stay tuned to our social channels for more updates. For now, you can certainly get yourself booked now and once we open, you’ll be set to go!
Stay tuned… 🥳

December Holiday Programs
We will be hosting holiday programs – full day, half day and workshops from Monday, December 20th to Thursday, December 23rd. Bookings are open now for these programs!
Looking to book? Simply log in to your Parent Portal account and take a look at what’s available. Spots are limited, so make sure to book soon and secure your spot!

Introducing SocialGym Sessions Pilot Program
SocialGym is a gymnastics based program that brings together like minded children to help develop their social, emotional, and problem-solving skills to help maintain relationships. The kids will keep fit and take part in our Badge & Stars program.
Our 4 week pilot program starts Saturday, November 27th with the last class on Saturday, December 18th. We have an introductory price of $15 per class whilst we test out the new lesson plans and class structure.
SocialGym is for children with special needs between the ages of 10 to 12 years of age. We will begin with classes being offered on Saturdays 3:36 – 4:36pm for 7 – 9 year olds and 4:36 – 5:36pm for 9 – 12 year olds.
Bookings can be made through the online portal. After your booking is made we will send through an additional form for you to fill out providing more information on your individual child’s needs.

CHILD SAFETY CORNER
While it isn’t yet mandatory for Twisters staff to be vaccinated, we understand that you have concerns and want to ensure that your children are in the safest care possible. A large portion of our staff are already fully vaxxed, or have received their first dose (keeping in mind, a lot of our coaches are still in high school and therefore weren’t eligible up until quite recently). We are having conversations and encouraging our staff to get themselves vaccinated when they’re able to do so.
Twisters will ensure that we stay in-line with the Roadmap requirements for opening, and will not open our doors to the public for indoor training if we cannot meet those requirements.
Please remember that due to privacy principles we are unable to provide personal information about the vaccination status of individuals on our staffing team. Please be assured that our club is currently following all government directives.
There will be plenty more to say about this in the future as requirements are made more clear, we will be sure to keep you posted on what Twisters is doing.

Gymnast of the Month
Congratulations to some of our August and September Gymnasts of the Month [lockdown has made it trickier, but we are still working to get details from our other Gymnasts of the Month and will post soon]!

Showgrounds August GoM | Aria

Here is what Coach Gen had to say…
I have known Aria for a few years now and she never stops amazing me. Not only is she dedicated to gymnastics and eager to improve, she’s also a light of positivity and kindness in the gym. Aria is very respectful to everyone at Twisters, helpful to her gym friends and always willing to try something new whether it’s a new skill, a new partner or a new game. Her talent and attentiveness when listening to feedback has allowed her to improve rapidly. She’s also a perfect role model for the young gymnasts, demonstrating the importance of kindness and patience.

Thank you for being such a positive member of the Twisters community Aria, your wonderful attitude does not go unnoticed! You should be very proud of yourself and your achievements so far. Congratulations on being named Twisters GoM, you are an absolute star and we’re glad to have you as a part of the gym! 🤩

Northcote September GoM | Reuben

Here is what coach Caylie had to say…
Rueben has come such a far way since he started with us back in January of this year. He has really come out of his shell and is consistently surprising me more and more each week.Over the last month, Rueben has conquered his fear of forward rolls and walking on the beam and has becoming more confident using his voice in class to ask for help, or tell me what kind of train we’re going to be. I am so proud of Rueben and I know that he will continue to build confidence and build his gymnastics skills. You can tell he loves coming to class and he’s a pleasure to have in our group!
