🌟Meet our People and Education Manager, Caylie!🌟
Caylie is the embodiment of our core value ‘Fun and Energy is Contagious’. Caylie works across all three locations and you know when she is around as her super high energy and fun attitude spread throughout the venue.
Caylie has worked hard at developing an exceptional education program that trains our coaches to be exactly what we want them to be – put simply: the best. Caylie’s understanding of people combined with her expert-level gymnastics knowledge means that we have an education program like no other. It offers online learning and hands-on training and covers all aspects of gymnastics coaching from technical skills and proper corrections, to identifying when a gymnast needs to be regressed or progressed, and implementing class management strategies. Through the education program, our coaches are developing the knowledge required to achieve their full potential and constantly progress their gymnasts.
Let’s learn a little more about Caylie and her motivation to create an ‘outside the box’ education program.
Hi, I am Caylie and my role at Twisters is People and Education Manager. I grew up in the small town of Strathmore, Alberta, Canada. I did my first gymnastics class as soon as I could walk and essentially grew up in the gym. My parents own Strathmore Gymnastics Club, which had a similar start to Twisters where we started as a set up/take down gym in a school and eventually grew to a permanent facility. I started competitive gymnastics when I was 7 and competed until I was 15. I have been coaching since I was 15 and have since coached gymnasts in the range of 2 years old all the way up to JO 8 – which is the equivalent of ALP 8 in Australia. I moved to Australia on Christmas Eve 2018 with a backpack and essentially no money after travelling through SE Asia. I interviewed for Twisters on January 4th and had my first shift the following week.
While coaching at Altadore Gymnastics Club in Calgary I had an exceptional mentor who taught me so much about gymnastics, but he also taught me so much about learning and how we should never stop. His passion and way of teaching has stuck with me and I tap into it whenever I need some guidance. It is part of my motivation to create the best education program for our coaches and mentors at Twisters – the next generation of lifelong learners.

School holiday schedule 29 June-12 July
All Showgrounds and Torquay both run classes year-round, so it is classes as normal at those locations.
Northcote classes will take a short break in the first week whilst the holiday program is running. Classes will resume as normal in the second week.
*Please note that our babies run on a different schedule. OpenGym runs alongside regular classes and will be running at Showgrounds and Torquay throughout. Northcote OpenGym will have a break in the first week whilst holiday program is running.
Teeny Tiny Tornadoes breaks at all 3 locations to allow for the afternoon holiday workshops.
☔️❄️ Great time for a make-up class! ❄️☔️
With the winter school holidays upon us, now is the perfect opportunity to book a makeup class or two to use up your child’s makeup vouchers. Classes are generally a bit quieter which means that there’s more availability to find a time that works for you. Torquay and Showgrounds both have classes as normal so you can book into either week of the holidays. Northcote takes a break in the first week but you can book into makeup classes in the second week of the holidays. It is an excellent way to burn some energy when the weather is cold and wet.
🌟🎉Coming soon! GFA competition for our rec gymnasts 🎉🌟
Twisters gymnasts will have the opportunity to compete at the GFA competition hosted by Waverley Gymnastics, coming in August. Gymnasts from all three locations aged 6 yrs+ who are enrolled in our Badge & Stars or Club Badges programs are welcome to enter. This is a fun competition that is suitable for all gymnasts. Look out for further details coming soon!
🤧Managing illness🤧
There are many viruses doing the rounds at the moment and it is almost impossible to avoid. Some simple tips for managing this season are:
– Good hand hygiene – wash your hands every time you blow your nose, cough or sneeze on your hands, or go to the bathroom.
– Remember your drink bottle – it can be difficult to remember to stay hydrated on colder days but it is important…and having your own drink bottle is preferable to sharing the drink fountains!
– Stay at home if you’re likely to be contagious. We all want to avoid getting sick as much as we possibly can. If you know that your child is likely to pass on an illness, please keep them at home until they are no longer contagious. Then book them in for an additional makeup class once they better.

Northcote parking reminder
Another month, another parking reminder! Our undercroft is a drop off/pick up zone only, if you intend to stay for longer than 5-minutes we kindly ask that you find a spot for your car in one of our parallel parks, or park on Beavers Road/surrounding streets. With winter arriving, it is essential that you only use the undercroft to drop and go, or drop and then park in one of the surrounding streets, to make it fair for everyone to avoid the weather. If parking on the street, be sure to bring an umbrella for the walk from and to the car! During our daytime Tiny Tornadoes classes, parents are welcome to park in the undercroft car spots. We really appreciate your cooperation.

Gymnast of the Month
Congratulations to our Gymnasts of the Month!

Northcote GoM | Olive
Here is why Coach Rachel nominated Olive…
Olive is a very well deserving gymnast of the month as she is a joy to coach! She is very hard-working and always listens and implements corrections. She is a respectful and kind team member and works well with her peers. I am always impressed by her beautiful shapes and bar swings! Thank you, Olive, for displaying our core value ‘dedication to go beyond’ with all your hard work!!

Showgrounds GoM | Elysa
Here is why Coach Rosanna nominated Elysa…
Without a doubt Elysa is the perfect candidate for Gymnast of the Month because of how perfectly she embodies our core value “Be Curious and Brave”.
Not so long ago, Elysa was afraid to walk on the beam and hang upside down, but now she is completely fearless on any equipment. She has achieved countless new skills over the past year since I started coaching her – including all kinds of rolls, handstands and jumps – and has been trying something new every week with a huge smile on her face.
With her bravery, curiosity and of course her positivity, I can see Elysa achieving so much more in gymnastics and beyond!!

Torquay GoM | Summer
Here is why Coach Stella nominated Summer…
I nominated Summer as gymnast of the month as I found she has really flourished in the class with both the activities and engagement with her peers. She demonstrated the core value of dedication to go beyond as she had been consistent in asking for help, progressions and guidance on how to complete more challenging activities. As well as that, she has been really supportive of with her peers and always is giving a helping hand to another fellow gymnast. Summer wants to become a professional gymnast when she is older and she is well on her way to becoming one and going to the Olympics (her dream!). Well done Summer!
