Mid-Year Testing
A reminder that Mid-Year testing will start on Monday 30th of May and wrap up on Sunday 12th June. Testing happens during class so you don’t need to do anything special during this time, we just ask that you ensure you arrive on time and ready to go!
After testing has concluded, you’ll be able to check your child’s results. How?
• Login to your Parent Portal account.
• Go to My Account, then Students.
• Click, Evaluations, then onto the respective level, for example, beginner.
• Work through each skill area, floor, beam, bars, etc. For example, FL1 – Bunny jump, if you notice a yellow star highlighted by the skill, this means your child has passed that skill and needs a sticker on their poster!
Work through all of the skills and add those stickers to anything that has a yellow star!
Absences and Make Ups
With illness everywhere at the moment, we’d like to remind you if you know you are away for a class or if your child wakes up sick, please mark yourself absent through the parent portal via the ‘Future Absences’ section. If we know your child is away for class, we are able to slot kids’ in for makeup lessons. If your child misses their regular class, you will receive a makeup token to use.
How do I use a makeup token?
To use your makeup token, login to the parent portal. Head to ‘My account’ and then into ‘Students’ > ‘Makeups’.
What happens if I forget to mark my child absent?
It is very helpful to us and to other families’ if you mark your child absent from class, if you know you won’t be attending, as it means we can slot other kids’ into your class for a makeup lesson. However, if you forget to do this, do not worry! Our coaches mark the roll at the start of each lesson so we always have a record of your child’s attendance. Regardless of the reason for your child’s absence and whether or not you pre-marked the absence, you will receive a makeup token to use another time.
I have 3 or more tokens on my account, how will I be able to get through using these makeup tokens?
You can use your makeup tokens to redeem days at holiday programs and holiday workshops in June/July! Tokens will be matched hour for hour (for example, 3hr workshop = 3 tokens, half day program = 5 tokens, full day program = 8 tokens. The upcoming program is already on the website and we are taking bookings. If you’d like to redeem your makeup tokens for a holiday program/workshop, please get in touch with our office so we can get you booked in!
Northcote Parking Spots
Please only park in our 18 purple marked Twisters car spaces and not in any other businesses along the driveway. Our undercroft is a drop-off/pick-up zone only, for after-school and weekend hours, to keep traffic moving. If you intend to stay for longer than 5-minutes, you’ll need to find a car spot outside of the undercroft or park on Beavers Road and walk into the gym.
A reminder that our driveway is a one-way entry and exit (entry via Beavers Road and exit via Separation Street) We really appreciate your help with this!
Sensory Hour
Twisters can be a loud and overwhelming environment for some children. We have introduced Sensory Hour to help children who experience overstimulation, feel more welcomed at Twisters. During Sensory Hour we will decrease the number of external stimuli, to help Nero-diverse individuals regulate and feel more comfortable.
How are we facilitating Sensory Hour?
We will be switching the music to a calming playlist and turning the volume down. We are encouraging coaches to manage their class volume levels. Sensory Hour will be implemented at all 3 facilities, running during our after school classes and on weekends. The hours will vary between all 3 facilities, depending on when the gym reaches peak periods.
We will have posters displayed during our viewing hours, when the sensory hour is taking place and we would appreciate it if you were considerate of these hours.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our inclusion coordinator, Lauren on inclusion@twistersgym.com.au.
Class Cancellations
In recent months, we are increasingly finding ourselves in the situation where many of our staff are unwell and there are no coaches available to cover a class. Never in the history of Twisters, have we had to cancel a class due to staff unavailability, but disappointingly, it is now becoming a weekly occurrence.
We have been working very hard to increase our coaching staff and we have employed 28 new trainees across our three locations in recent months – wow! We invest a lot of resources to educate our coaches, through our training program, and to give them the coaching experience, to bring them up to the standard that we expect at Twisters.
We can see the light at the end of the tunnel and the stability that these new faces will bring to our business but that doesn’t solve the problems we have right now…
We anticipate that with the raging colds, flu and Covid around the community, we will still need to cancel classes occasionally, please know that we will only cancel classes when we don’t have qualified coaches available and it is absolutely necessary.
How do we inform you of cancelled classes? We will send parents an email and an SMS. Please make sure that your contact details are up to date in the Parent Portal, so that we can ensure you get notified if necessary!
We thank you and appreciate you being so understanding of these difficulties, which appear to be widespread…

Gymnast of the Month
Congratulations to our May Gymnasts of the Month!

Northcote GoM | Charlotte
I nominated Charlotte for Gymnast of the Month because she’s been working super hard on her fear of being upside down! She’s conquered it to the point of being able to do forward rolls on the bar completely by herself every time!
I’ve been really impressed with how much Charlotte is willing to push and try to get over that fear and learn every new skill she wants to learn. Her cartwheels are also improving and getting really really good!
Well done Charlotte!!

I can tell that even at a very young age Georgia is already an emerging leader. She sets a positive example for the other kids to follow. She is very independent and wants to do every activity by herself or with minimal assistance. Georgia is passionate about Gymnastics. She is always up for challenges and gives everything her best go!
